Students get creative to raise cash for schools

Matthew Pavao donned a chicken suit late last month, spending lunchtime dancing at a rally at Ralston Middle School.
The dean of students for the Belmont school didn’t lose a bet. On the contrary, it was a reward — not for him, but for his students.
Students set a goal of raising $5,000 to donate to School Force, the education foundation supporting Belmont-Redwood Shores School District. In one week, the kids raised $7,000 and earned the right to celebrate with Pavao in a chicken suit. Click here to read more.

Qiao first thought of donating her $5 monthly allowance to help with the district’s financial problems and then came up with the birthday idea. She hoped to raise $500 in donations and made a collection box that looked like a pink house for any contributions. Click here to read more.
